How much bid per click – Adwords,MSN,Yahoo or any PPC Ad Network?

How much to bid? This is an often asked question.

Ideally it should be based on the lifetime value of your customer. If you can’t calculate or rather if you are not in a position to calculate life time value of a customer then here are some thumb rules

1/3rd t0 1/2 of the Google recommended bid

1/100th of the average profit per product

1/10th the value the lead.

If you are testing or starting out use exact match only to figure out what works. Adjust the bids every 250-500 visitors at the adgroup level for the first one month.

Adwords PPC Daily Budget Rules

Set realistic daily budget -ie. based on what you can afford to spend
It should be set to allow you to generate enough clicks and gather valuable data.
For conservative daily budgets use exact match keywords or exact match and phrase match.
If you are using broad match – make sure that you watch your adwords account like a hawk to avoid bleeding.
P.S. Ensure that you have conversion tracking in place so that you can calculate ROI/profits.

Men are better buyers

I have been analyzing a PPC campaign for over a month and find that keywords variations with “for men” convert better than those with “for women”. ie.

The keyword

widgets for men

converts better than

widgets for women

This is particularly true for higher ticket items. What does it mean, men are more impulsive buyers of luxury?

What is your take?

Block Adsense Spammers – Groupon,Livingsocial etc to improve your CTR

Is your Adsense CTR low – then your site is probably being spammed with ads from Groupon, Livingsocial etc

It most cases these spammer sites have no relation to the content your site and hence they help only in creating visibility or mind share for these companies with obvious deep pockets. Since clicks = clinks webmasters lose by showing their ads. Moreover the visitors are very likely tired of seeing Groupon and such all over.

One of our client’s site saw the CTR double after blocking these spammers out.

Here is how you filter out or block adsense ads from specific sites showing up on your pages.

Go to your adsense account —>Adsense Setup–>Competitive Ad Filter

Enter the URLs in the box below Adsense for Content Filters
